Thread Lifting (Silhouette Soft)

Loss of structural volume, and weakening of the support network of the facial tissues leads to sagging, visibly manifesting as the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jowls. Neck sagging also develops. Restoring structural volume can improve this, however definitive treatment requires the sagging tissue to be repositioned to its normal location. Once an issue requiring surgery, a non surgical Silhouette Soft thread lift can address this concern with low risk, and minimal downtime.

Threads are introduced into the tissue under local anaesthetic. Dr Aaron uses threads with a cone-based structure (Silhouette Soft), providing maximum engagement with the tissue, and therefore a strong repositioning strength. The threads also stimulate the production of type 1 collagen – reversing age related collagen loss, and providing a tangible benefit for many years after the threads have metabolized.

Aside from the immediate lift lasting on average 1-2 years, and the significant volume of type 1 collagen produced, the thread lift will also slow down further tissue sagging by reducing the load applied to the native supporting structures of the face.

Occasionally adjuvant treatments may be needed to ‘prepare’ for the thread lift, to attain the best possible results. These may include volume (With soft tissue filler), collagen stimulating treatments, neurotoxin to weaken downward pulling muscles of the lower face (And hence the force applied to the threads, maximizing the lift), and reducing submental fat (Double chin) by either injections or liposuction (Again to reduce the load applied to the threads).

While the collagen lasts many years, the threads and lift will gradually wear off over time as one continues to age. In general thread lifting can be performed every 6 months, but most patients elect to undergo treatment every 2-4 years. One-off treatments are also beneficial.

FAQs

Following a thorough consultation and assessment, Dr Aaron will advise on the most appropriate approach to your Thread Lift. The procedure takes between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the number of threads used. Local anaesthetic is used to minimise discomfort. After your treatment there may be mild, transient discomfort, and a feeling of tightness. Dr Aaron follows up his Thread Lift patients at 2 weeks. This can be done via a video call. He will then review you again after 3 months to assess the final result. More threads can be inserted at any time to improve the effect. Collagen Stimulators can be injected 3 months before Thread Lifting to improve the outcome in those with minimal tissue coverage.

Thread Lifting is a safe treatment, with minimal risks and side effects. Some side effects of the treatment are as follows: Swelling and bruising. Redness. There is a very rare risk of infection, which can be treated with antibiotics, nerve injury, and inflammatory reactions requiring treatment. This treatment is strictly not performed in people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, having IVF treatment, or planning any of the aforementioned; or in those who have taken prescription acne medication from their Dermatologist in the proceeding 3 months.

Silhouette Soft Thread Lifts dissolve over 9-12 months. There will also be longer lasting results after the threads have dissolved. The lifting effect from the Thread Lift is immediate, and will last 18-24 months due to the collagen structure produced by the body in response to the threads. The collagen production takes 3 months, but will last years. The benefits of collagen production are in tissue volumisation, skin quality and elasticity, and facial contouring.

There are a few steps to take before your Thread Lift to ensure the best outcome, and the lowest risk of side effects. They include:

  • Ceasing all anti-inflammatories, aspirin, herbal supplements, fish oil, krill oil, glucosamine and vitamin E 1 week before your treatment (Unless you have been advised to take these by a Medical Practitioner).
  • Avoiding alcohol for 2 days before your treatment.
If you do not adhere to the above your treatment may still proceed, but you will have a higher risk of side effects.

Following your treatment you will be provided with full aftercare instructions. You will be able to resume most normal activity the following day. You may experience discomfort over the suture entry and exit points, bruising and a tight sensation. There may be mild skin dimpling, but this will settle on its own. The most important instructions are the following:

  • Apply an ice pack gently for any discomfort and to reduce swelling.
  • Do not massage the treated area.
  • Avoid major dental treatment for 3 weeks.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Avoid excessive facial muscle movement for 2 weeks.
  • Sleep face up with your head elevated on pillows for 3-5 nights.
The lifting effect will be visible immediately. The benefit from collagen production, and hence the final result (Including after swelling settles) with take 3 months. In this time it is important not to be concerned regarding the outcome.
