Anti Wrinkle Injections

As we age, fine lines develop around areas of movement including the eyes, forehead, frown and mouth. This results from damage to the structural layer in the skin, from repetitive folding as the muscles contract. Volume loss leads to drooping tissue, which these (And other) muscles must support. Constant use in this way leads to deeper folds as the excess skin is supported.

Anti wrinkle treatments aim to soften fine lines and folds, and prevent their progression by reducing the repetitive folding and resultant damage to the support structures of the skin. This is achieved by weakening the muscles underlying the movements contributing the creases seen on initially dynamic, and later on both dynamic and static facial expression. An additional benefit cosmetically is that makeup will be less prone to creasing.

The facial muscles are in harmony (Opposing muscles pull either up or down), thus effective treatment must consider optimal balance of the face, to prevent abnormal appearances of particularly the brows, or eyelid skin, while still achieving a satisfactory clinical result.

Treatment protocols vary depending on your own needs and goals. Every treatment will have a short term benefit, however the best long term results in preventing the progression of fine lines and folds are with regular treatment done 2-4 times per year.

Adjuvant treatments are often introduced as structural age related changes occur, and as collagen loss to the skin progresses beyond a point where neurotoxin can address them in isolation. Synergism with treatments that restore volume and provide deep support to the tissue (Reducing the work required by muscles), and that produce collagen (Collagen stimulating fillers, energy based devices, and mesotherapy) will provide superior results.

FAQs

The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes, and there is only mild discomfort. A very small needle is used to inject the product into specific areas, and some people report a slight stinging sensation as the product is being injected. There tends to be no discomoft or pain after the injection. The results will start to appear after 5 days, but the maximum effect may take up to 2 weeks to become apparent for wrinkle reduction, teeth grinding and anti sweat treatment, and 6 weeks for muscle slimming. Determining the right treatment for you may take time. It is important to gauge the effect of your treatment at the 2 week mark. Your treatment can then be adjusted at your next appointment as needed, to suit your needs.

Neurotoxin treatments for wrinkle reduction last 3-4 months on average. Over this time, there will be a gradual return to the pre-treatment appearance. Anti sweat treatments and muscle slimming last an average of 6 months. Best results in the long term are achieved with routine treatments, 3-4 times per year. Short term longevity is less important than most people believe. Wrinkle prevention is the most effective anti aging strategy when it comes to Anti Wrinkle treatment. Thus starting early is always the best option. It will not only soften existing lines, but will significantly slow and prevent the development of new wrinkles.

There are a few steps to take before your Neurotoxin treatment to ensure the best outcome, and the lowest risk of side effects. They include:

  • Ceasing all anti-inflammatories, aspirin, herbal supplements, fish oil, krill oil, glucosamine and vitamin E one week before your treatment (Unless you have been advised to take these by a Medical Practitioner).
  • Avoiding alcohol for 2 days before your treatment.
If you do not adhere to the above your treatment may still proceed, but you will have a higher risk of side effects.

Following your treatment you will be provided with full aftercare instructions. You will be able to resume most normal activity immediately. The most important instructions are the following:

  • Apply an ice pack gently for any discomfort.
  • Do not touch the treated area for 5 hours.
