What can a thread lift treat?
Mid Face and Cheeks
By targeting the cheeks with a thread lift, Dr. Aaron can lift sagging tissue, softening nasolabial folds, and providing fuller and more youthful cheeks. This is all accomplished without surgery, meaning lower cost, minimal pain and low downtime. The threads will stimulate collagen production, meaning results will tend to improve over time.
Jawline and Jowls
Restore the definition and contour of your jawline can be done without surgery using a thread lift. By using threads in strategic locations Dr. Aaron can lift the jowls and tighten the jawline. This is all achievable without the cost, pain and downtime of surgery.
Lift sagging neck tissue and tighten the skin with threads. The collagen produced by the threads over the first few months will give prolonged results with firmer skin and a stronger lift. It’s time to stop putting up with a neck that gives away your age.
This procedure is ideal for men who have early sagging of the cheeks, and jowls. It can help to restore a youthful and masculine jawline, and leave you looking refreshed, defined and in your prime.
Short mono threads made of PDO (polydioxanone) can be inserted under the skin to stimulate collagen production. This rejuvenates the skin, improving its texture and tone, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and softening deeper folds. The collagen produced by PDO mono threads may last many years. PDO skin threads can form part of a comprehensive skin rejuvenation treatment, and work best when used as a supportive treatment for anti wrinkle injections and radiofrequency skin needling.
Some practitioners are inserting threads into the nose to define and slim the bridge and lift the tip. Dr. Aaron does not perform this, as there are safer, more precise alternatives. You can lift the nose tip with dermal filler injections (nose lift). Nose filler injections to lift the tip are one of Dr. Aaron’s most popular procedures.
What types of threads are used for a thread lift?
There are two main types of threads that can be used to lift sagging skin.
PLLA threads (poly-L-lactic acid, Silhouette Soft) are lined with sliding cones and are inserted through a pilot hole made with a small needle under local anaesthetic. Each end of the thread is inserted into the pilot hole and passed in opposite directions: one end towards the scalp, the other towards the centre of the face. The thread is self-fixating as the cones on each end of the thread face towards each other. PLLA threads stimulate the production of type 1 collagen.
PDO threads (polydioxanone) are generally lined with barbs (small spikes) and are inserted through a pilot hole. The key difference in the insertion of PDO threads compared to PLLA threads is the location of the pilot hole. PDO threads are inserted more towards the hairline, and are passed under the skin towards the centre of the face. Multiple threads are inserted through the same hole, and are then tied together to fix them into place. PDO threads stimulate the production of type 3 collagen.
How many threads are needed for a lift?
The amount of threads you need to lift sagging skin for your non surgical face lift will depend on the type of threads used, how saggy your skin is, and how much of a lift you want. When using threads to lift sagging skin, using more is almost always preferable. This is because using more threads distributes the weight, meaning each thread has less work to do.
When using PLLA threads, generally anywhere from 6-12 may be inserted.
If your non surgical face thread lift uses PDO threads, then 8-20 threads may be used.
PLLA and PDO threads can be used in combination to get the benefits of both types of fixation.
Thread lifting vs. facelift surgery
Thread lifting is a minimally invasive, non surgical treatment designed to reposition sagging skin and boost collagen production to improve tissue quality and slow the ageing process. It takes 30-45 minutes, has no incisions, minimal downtime (generally just some swelling and bruising), and immediate results. It can be combined with other treatments like dermal fillers and anti wrinkle treatment for a more comprehensive result. A thread lift is ideal for someone with early or mild sagging skin who would like to refresh their appearance and slow the ageing process without surgery.
A facelift is an invasive surgery that removes excess skin of the face. It requires general anaesthetic, has a few weeks of downtime, and risks including permanent nerve injury. A facelift does not restore collagen or improve the skin that is not removed. Facelifting surgery is more suitable for those with moderate to severe sagging skin who want a dramatic improvement in their concerns, and who are accepting of the expense, downtime and risk of cosmetic facial surgery.
